Here are some images to show the development of my map.
The First map layout shows the different zones shaped as a symbol to represent that particular zone.
The second image shows the first stage of turning the image three dimensional.
The third image shows a basic zone layout but including the symbols in a different way. I decided to use the symbols as a grass patch in each of the zones. I think this idea is much more successful.
