MTV Morphs continued:
I think this will be an interesting brief to explore. I have already thought of a number of ideas for what MTV might be if it wasn’t just a broadcaster, and I think my best and most interesting idea was for MTV to become a roller disco.
Roller Disco's:
A roller disco is a discothèque where all the dancers wear roller skates. The music played is modern and danceable, historically disco but in modern times including almost any form of dance music or pop music. Roller discos are also popular among older children and young teenagers, especially for parties. As in other discos, special effects such as dry ice and flashing traffic lights are often used.
The concept originated in the 1970s when the disco craze was at its height, peaking around 1980 and inspiring several roller-disco magazines. As of 2006, the craze has largely discontinued and I want to bring it back in the form of MTV Roll.
Style...
70's and 80's all the way!!! but this doesn't have to be the case all the time. Ok we can throw in some cheesy seventies music and costumes occasionally but if you can dance to it, anything can be used. Cheery seventies hits, funky house music to Hip-Hop and RnB would cater for everyones taste.
If MTV were to morph into something different, I couldnt see it change into something that had nothing to do with music... this is why I think this would work well.
Revival...
There has been brief glimpses of a roller disco revival. Maddona, one of the biggest superstars in the world, featured a roller disco in one of her latest videos.

She also used roller skating and 1980's music for the Intro to her latest world tour.

Press/ Newspaper:

In 2005 a movie about Roller Disco called 'Roll Bounce' was released starring rapper Bow Wow.

There is also an event called 'Roller Disco' every Thursday and Friday at 'Canvas', Kings Cross, which is "one of the hottest nights in the capital, impossible to get into after 10pm."
"I just want to recommend Canvas club's Rollerdisco to anyone who wants to have a fun night out away from the usual RnB, hip hop, garage and bashment raves that aren't saying much nowadays. If you want somewhere that's full of good vibes with a friendly atmosphere a rollerdisco is definitely your best option. I went to Canvas for my 21st and we had a really good time. There needs to be more rollerdiscos in London."
